What are you thinking? How are you feeling? – Gone Girl

Nick Dunne: [last lines]

Nick Dunne: What are you thinking? How are you feeling? What have we done to each other? What will we do?

I would say that this is one of my favourite movie of this year. I have read the book right after I saw the trailer. I would not say that it is exactly the same with the book but I must say one thing… WOW!!!

For those who have not watch this film yet, I would highly recommend you to go and watch this film immediately.

The thing that I love the most about this film is the character Amy Elliott-Dunne played by Rosamund Pike. A little background of Amy, she came from a rich family and she is extremely smart. Her parents wrote a children storybook called “Amazing Amy”, which indirectly was Amy’s competitors in life. I think due to her nature growing up, it has developed some psychotic behaviour where she constantly needs to be love. Long story short she is married to a man whom she met at a party named Nick Dunne, played by Ben Affleck.

Before we start exploring the character of Amy Dunne, let’s review one major differences between the film and the book.

The ending of the story!

If you have read the book then you will know that the story actually ended a day before the pregnancy was due. The movie will not show the pregnancy to you guys. But we know that it is happening because the couple announced it on TV.

There are few more differences from the book, but I won’t spoiled it all.

Okay so let’s get back to the main topic, Amy’s character.

I like the way how the writer makes her character so psychotic. Amy managed to actually control everyone around her without anybody realising it. She even turned Nick to be the man of her dream.

Despite Nick said what she wanted to hear during the TV interview, but indirectly it was Amy that pursued him saying so. She counted every movement that he would probably make, and ended up with what she wants.

This film shows that women can be as evil as men. When listen to the news about domestic abuse, this film shows that domestic abuse might not just happen to the wife but also to the husband. Although Amy did not physically abused Nick but she is abusing him mentally. I think Amy’s disappearance could easily go off as the perfect crime. She has designed a perfect crime. Rosamund Pike has beautifully portrayed Amy. Her facial reaction and voice lure us to her trance, trapping us in her own world.

But enough about Amy.

Ben Affleck also showed an outstanding performance of Nick Dunne. I would not imagine another actor playing this character. I actually felt sorry for him. His awkwardness and eye glaze do actually brought the character to life. He turned himself from the world most hated guy to the tragic husband whose wife was kidnapped.

I would not mind watching this film again.
